Welcome to the Advanced Placement page. We hope you’ll find valuable information and resources to support all students.
Offering over 30 courses, San Antonio’s Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue college-level studies with the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. Each AP course connects directly to a wide variety of college majors and careers. AP courses also help students transform the subjects they are enthusiastic about into a fulfilling future. By giving students the opportunity to explore what interests them the most, AP courses help them find and pursue their unique direction. Plus, eighty-five percent of selective colleges and universities report that a student’s AP experience favorably impacts admission decisions.
Each AP course concludes with an opportunity for students to earn college credit with an AP examination. The AP examinations are structured to measure three areas - depth of knowledge, completeness of thought, and synthesis of ideas. Approximately 1,200 institutions award credit based on the student's AP examination scores. These examinations are graded on a five-point scale with college credit usually given for scores of 3 or higher. At San Antonio ISD, enrolled students are expected to participate in the examination process and sign an oath to do so at the beginning of each AP course. Who may take ap courses?
SAISD has an open enrollment AP Program. Students who have academic aptitude and/or interest may take any AP course providing they have met the prerequisites for that course.
What campuses offer ap courses?
SAISD offers over 30 AP courses at 19 campuses! All High School campuses have a portfolio of AP courses available to students.
what do ap courses cost?
SAISD is committed to offer AP courses at no cost to all enrolled students. Exam fees, textbooks, consumables, and online resources are made available to all. The only potential cost associated with AP courses are when a student registers for an AP Exam after the deadline (mid October) or if they fail to take an AP Exam for which they are enrolled.
