WELCOME to the
EARLY CHILDHOOD and HEAD START Website
ECE is here for you!
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Department provides support for schools to deliver high-quality, full day instruction to 3 and 4 year-olds through its state-funded prekindergarten program and the federally-funded Head Start program partnered with the City of San Antonio. Our ECE programs are designed to provide nurturing and stimulating learning environments that support the social, emotional, academic and physical development of our youngest students and set a strong foundation for kindergarten readiness and future learning.
The MISSION of the Early Childhood Education Department is to prepare our youngest students for school readiness and lifelong success; to empower families to support their children’s academic trajectory.
The VISION of the Early Childhood Education Department is to make SAISD the District of choice for early learning.
In adherence with TEA's High Quality Early Childhood Program expectations, our ultimate goal is to make continuous improvement and alignment efforts in collaboration with schools for the successful implementation of essential components including:
To develop a strong foundation for school readiness and future success that guides the growth of children in utilizing their executive functioning skills, for thinking, reasoning, and communicating with others. To create an environment that encourages children to explore learning materials through natural play and authentic interactions with adults and peers. The Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines include ten (10) domains which promote early learning experiences necessary for the development of school-ready skills.
